of software within the contract term (typically 2-years).

The unlawful and unauthorized use of a software program on a computer

Pool:
A number value assigned to a group of software license programs to
determine the discounted purchase price. Point totals within pools
typically determine discount levels. |

Shrink-Wrap/Boxed
Copy: Typically a software product that comes in a retail
box and includes the CD-ROM, manual, and single-user license. |

Site
License: A software volume license agreement that gives corporate
customers the right to purchase all software licenses needed by an
entire organization or a clearly defined sub-group based on one centralized
agreement. |

Software
Asset Management (SAM): The proactive recording and maintaining
of software licenses across an organization in order to reduce the
total cost of ownership. |

Transactional
License Program (TLP): A software volume license program
that does not require a signed contract or other long-term purchasing
commitment. |

Upgrade:
To replace existing software with the newest version of the same software.
With software volume license programs, upgrades are offered at a discount
based on the currently installed software. |

Upgrade
Protection: Grants the organization the right to receive
new software version upgrades during a given time period (usually
the duration of the agreement) for a discounted or prepaid price. |

Version
Upgrade: A new release of an existing product; the right
to upgrade from one software title to the next version release of
that same software title. |

License Program (VLP): A purchasing program offered by
software vendors for software licenses purchased in volume. |
